Design Intent and Strategy:
Kathool is a powerful sorcerer dragon who uses its massive health pool to both tank damage and destroy islands. Kathool’s passive ability is Eternal Might, which doubles Kathool’s max HP and gives the dragon increased breath damage at all times. This increased health reserve supercharges all of Kathool’s spells that scale based off of the dragon’s HP. Kathool’s main damaging ability is Touch of the Deep. When cast, Kathool damages and freezes all towers in a small target area. Touch of the Deep’s freeze lasts for a moderate duration, so the spell can be used to reliably disable key targets in addition to dealing damage. Kathool’s primary defensive spell is Elder Sign. When cast, Kathool gains a shield that blocks a finite amount of damage. If Kathool recasts Elder Sign before the shield is broken, the shield will explode, damaging nearby towers and causing them to take increased damage. Elder Sign’s explosive power is not affected by how damaged the shield is. Kathool fliers should try to keep the shield active for as long as possible, and only detonate it right before it breaks. Kathool’s final spell is Awaken! When cast, Kathool is fully healed and restores all of its rage. The dragon also damages nearby towers and briefly becomes invincible. Awaken is an incredibly powerful ability that can turn the tide of any battle, but Kathool fliers must time their moment carefully, as the spell can only be cast once. All of Awaken’s effects lend it to be incredibly versatile. Awaken’s invincibility can block mage tower supershots, the damage can finish off weakened islands, and the full Health and Rage restore can replenish the dragon’s resources for the final push through a base. Despite the dragon’s immense power, players must carefully manage Kathool’s resources. Outside of Awaken, the dragon has no means to heal or recover rage. If Kathool is forced to use Awaken early in the battle, it won’t likely make it to the end.
