Breaking Down the 300 Progression Barrier
Player Level Scaling Arrives Next Week!
A few months ago, our team laid down the groundwork for what our 2019 Development Roadmap was going to be focused on. The goals were broken down into Bug Bashing, Quality of Life, and Player Happiness. Among the top requests for Quality of Life features was a fix to player progression past level 300, and has been seen across the board as the #1 most requested change based on community feedback.
We are happy to announce that a fix for the progression issues post-level 300 is coming to the game next week! Read on to find out what players should expect to see change in-game with the rollout of this new update.
Release Date and What to Expect
Progression improvements for levels 300+ will be available in War Dragons next week, and will release on Tuesday, February 26th!
In order to implement this change in the game, War Dragons will go offline for 20-30 minutes for maintenance. Keep an eye on the War Dragons Twitter and Facebook channels, as well as the Dragons Forums, for live updates on the 26th to know when the game will go offline.
Once the game is back online, players above level 300 will experience an immediate series of leveling on their accounts. When you log in after this change, you will get every single level up pop-up between your old level and your new level, sequentially. Once this process is over, everything should be back to normal. Fortunately, if you close the game while these level up pop-ups are running, you'll be at your new level when you relaunch and will have skipped the mass influx of pop-ups. No need to tap through dozens of level up notifications unless you really want to.
If you run into any issues during this process, please reach out to our Support Team for further assistance.
What are the Level 300+ Progression Issues?
After level 300, the XP necessary for leveling up increases significantly. For example, progressing from level 290 to level 291 requires 100,000 XP, but progressing from level 300 to 301 requires 400,000 XP (a 4x increase).
This causes progression to feel significantly slower after level 300 compared to levels 1-299. As a result of this slowed progression, some players above level 300 have felt frustrated by the pace of the game and the progress that they’re able to make with each passing Fortification event.
How We’re Breaking it Down
We’re going to take a couple of steps to address these issues:
-
Smooth out the progression curve for levels 300+ (for example, the XP necessary to progress from level 300 to 301 will reduce from 400,000 XP to 100,000 XP)
-
Incubator, Breeding Castle, Storage Hut, and Builder Hut requirements above level 300 will have reduced requirements in terms of total player XP required (although the numerical level required will go up - more on this below!)
-
The 100% glory cap will have reduced requirements in terms of total player XP required (although the numerical level required will also go up - more on this below!)
Please note that players who are not level 300 or higher will not experience any change to their account or level. However, players above level 300 will now be at higher levels as expected, so don’t fret if you see a sudden uptick in displayed level on bases. This does not mean the same bases as before will become stronger, they will just be at a higher level than before.
So what happens to all the hard work you’ve put into leveling your base if you’re past level 300? Don’t worry, all that XP earned will carry over into the new leveling system. After the change is rolled out, your level will automatically increase to what it should be as if you’ve leveled up in the new system. How much it will increase is determined by a variety of factors, so more on that below.
Here’s a couple of different scenarios to illustrate what will happen to players at various levels:
-
Level 305 Player: You currently have approximately 18.5 million XP at level 305. After the change, your cumulative XP will remain the same at 18.5 million and your player level will increase to approximately level 319 (may vary slightly from player to player).
-
Level 380 Player: You currently have approximately 48 million XP at level 380. After the change, your cumulative XP will remain the same at 48 million and your player level will increase (a whopping 63 levels!) to approximately level 443 (may vary slightly from player to player).
-
Level 589 Player: You currently have approximately 205 million XP at level 589. After the change, your cumulative XP will remain the same at 205 million and your player level will increase to approximately level 600 (may vary slightly from player to player).
Progression Curve
As mentioned earlier, we’ll be smoothing out the player level progression curve starting at level 300. The new curve can be seen below in red:

New Building Requirements
So what about the increased building level requirements mentioned earlier? The player XP requirements to unlock these buildings (and the Dragon tiers) will be reduced, but the numerical levels will increase. Overall, Vanguard and Empyrean tier Dragons will now be easier to incubate.
As an example, the incubator requirement for a Vanguard Tier Dragon was level 330. After the change, it will increase to level 360. However, a player who was level 330 before the change will now be level 377. Thus, a player who can incubate a Vanguard Tier Dragon before the change will still be able to incubate this Tier of Dragons after the change. In fact, players that are currently level 322 will now also be able to incubate Vanguard Dragons after the change as they are going to be at level 361. This represents a discount of about 13% for the XP requirements necessary to breed Vanguard Dragons. Empyrean Dragons will have an even steeper discount in level requirements at 17%.

Atlas Glory and XP Payout Cap
Because of these changes, the Atlas 100% glory level cap will be increased from 350 to 400. This will also be a slight decrease in player XP required, as a level 400 after the change is similar to a level 344 before the change.
The cap on XP payout for each level will not be changing. Thus, players will now have higher XP payout caps than before.
Player Level Calculator
Gameplay Faction member Mechengg has graciously created a player level calculator based on the expected changes to come next Tuesday. Using this calculator, you can know exactly what changes to expect when you log in after the update has arrived. It will list your expected level after the scaling with other individual factors taken into effect.

The link will prompt you to Make a Copy of the Sheet for your own personal use. Once the copy is created, you can input your player level and know what you can expect when the update is live on Tuesday!
